Indian passenger vehicle sales in December 2023 were up 3.2% y/y to 242,920 units. Vehicle sales from October to December 2023 were up 7.4% y/y to 1,247,614 units. PVs (passenger vehicle, UV and van) sales were up 8.4% to 1,013,082 units (excludes BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo Cars).

Data shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the total vehicle sales between April 2023 and March 2024 stood at 2,38,53,463, a growth of 12.5 per cent, compared to 2,12,04,846 units sold during the same period in FY 2023.

Sedan sales in December 2023 stood at 28,850 units, down 13.70 percent from 33,430 units sold in December 2022. This was a volume de-growth of 4,580 units. MoM sales also fell by 5.92 percent from 30,665 units sold in November 2023.

The list of the top 10 best-selling cars in India in December 2023 consists of models from Maruti, Tata, Hyundai & Mahindra. The top 3 positions are occupied by Tata & Maruti cars (Nexon, Dzire & Punch). The Mahindra Scorpio is in 7th place, while the Hyundai Venue occupies the 9th position.

The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car model in 2023, topping 1.15 million sales. It was followed closely by the Toyota Corolla.
