How South Carolina can reach Final Four, win March Madness

Here are the highest possible seeds South Carolina could face in each round of the NCAA Tournament, from the early rounds all the way up to the national title game.

Round of 64: No. 16 Sacred Heart or Presbyterian

Northeast Conference champion Sacred Heart or Big South Conference champion Presbyterian will face South Carolina in the first round.Presbyterian entered its conference tournament as the No. 5 seed but made a surprise run to clinch the automatic bid.

Round of 32: No. 8 North Carolina

The Tar Heels stumbled into Selection Sunday after losing seven of their last 11 games. Still, they've shown they can hang tough against top-ranked teams, with wins against Notre Dame, Louisville and NC State andsingle-digit losses to Kansas State, UConn and South Carolina. Indeed, North Carolina gave the Gameco*cks one of their toughest games all season, though the Tar Heels ultimately lost, 65-58.

Sweet 16: No. 4 Oklahoma

The Sooners cleaned up against their in-state rivals this season, beating Texas twice and Baylor once. They also beat Ole Miss early in the year, but they struggled against several other NCAA Tournament-caliber opponents, including Princeton, Tennessee and Kansas State.

Elite Eight: No. 2 Notre Dame

Notre Dame lost by 29 points to South Carolina in the opening game of the season. Butfreshman Hannah Hidalgo scored 31 points for the Irish in that game, and she's only gotten better. Still, Notre Dame is working with a limited rotation due to injuries, which could tip the scales in the Gameco*cks' favor.

Final Four: No. 1 Texas

The Big 12 champions lost guard Rori Harmon to an ACL tear just 12 games into the season, but the Longhorns just kept rolling. Credit freshman forward Madison Booker for stepping up: She averages 16.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.5 steals.

Championship: No. 1 Iowa

Everyone knows what — or more accurately, who — the Hawkeyes bring to the table. Caitlin Clark has had a season for the ages, setting records and leading the NCAA in scoring and assists. Yet Iowa is a bit thin beyond its starting lineup, so an off game for Clark could spell doom for her team.
