It will make your home and linens smell like your favorite autumn scents. Don’t just reserve this amazing fragrance for fall, however, as it’s anything but basic. You can also carry this warm and spice fragrance over into the holiday season.

Following is an easy pumpkin spice room spray recipe you can make to scent your home this fall. Pumpkin Spice Room Spray Recipe with Essential Oils

Ingredients:

1.8 oz. distilled water
2 oz. high proof grain alcohol or perfumer’s alcohol
.2 oz.polysorbate 20
Pumpkin spice essential oil blend, see below

Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil Blend:

24 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil
24 drops ginger essential oil
24 drops nutmeg essential oil
18 drops clove bud essential oil
6 drops cardamom essential oil

Directions:

Weigh out the distilled water, alcohol and polysorbate 20. Then combine the ingredients in a glass 4 oz. bottle with a fingertip mister using a funnel. Next, add the essential oils and shake well.

To use this DIY pumpkin spice room spray, simply mist in the air or onto linens as desired.

How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Room Spray with Fragrance Oils

If purchasing essential oils is outside of your budget at the moment, you can also make my DIY pumpkin spice room spray using a fragrance oil. Simply use .2 oz. of your favorite pumpkin spice fragrance oil in place of the essential oils called for in the recipe.

How Can I Make Scent Substitutions to This Pumpkin Spice Room Spray?

Done with pumpkin spice? You can use the basic ingredients in my pumpkin spice room spray recipe to customize it with any of your favorite fragrances to enjoy year round. Simply substitute the pumpkin spice essential oil blend with another essential oil blend of your choice. Or swap out the fragrance oil with one more suited to the current season.

What If I Don’t Want to Use Alcohol?

If you don’t want to use alcohol to make this DIY pumpkin spice room spray, or you can’t find high proof alcohol, that’s okay. Alcohol can be expensive. However, the alcohol does serve as a natural preservative for this room spray. Therefore, if you choose not to include alcohol in your room spray recipe, you will need to use a preservative.

To make my pumpkin spice room spray without alcohol, replace the alcohol with additional distilled water. Then also add .05 oz. Optiphen ND (by weight) to the mixture.

Do I Have to Use Polysorbate 20 To Make My Room Spray?

You do not have to use polysorbate 20 to make this DIY pumpkin spice room spray. It is recommended, however, as it’s a great emulsifier that keeps the oil and water mixed together. Should you choose not to use polysorbate 20 in your room spray recipe, you should replace it with a solubilizer, such as vegetable glycerin.

Is This Pumpkin Spice Room Spray Safe for Pets?

Unfortunately, my pumpkin spice room spray is not pet safe. Clove essential oil and cinnamon essential oil are known toxins to dogs and cats. Skin exposure or ingestion can result in poisoning. As room sprays can coat your pet’s coat, it’s best not to use this room spray around pets. These essential oils are especially harmful to vulnerable dogs such as puppies or dogs with liver disease. Ways to Use Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil Blend

Use It in a Reed Diffuser

Reed diffusers are another fun way to scent your home! (You can learn how to make DIY reed diffuser here.)

To use my pumpkin spice essential oil blend in your reed diffuser, first make a master blend of the essential oil blend. Then combine two Tablespoons each of grain alcohol (or perfumer’s alcohol) with two Tablespoons of distilled water. Add 25 drops of the pumpkin spice essential oil blend to the alcohol and water mixture. Then place the reed diffuser oil into a 2 oz. container with rattan reed diffuser sticks.

Make Pumpkin Spice Perfume

It’s super easy to make an essential oil perfume scented in pumpkin spice. Simply add the following essential oil blend to a 10 mL roller bottle. Then fill the remainder of the of bottle with jojoba or fractionated coconut oil and swirl to mix.

10 mL fractionated coconut or jojoba oil
4 dropscinnamon essential oil
4 dropsfresh ginger essential oil
4 dropsnutmeg essential oil
3 dropsclove bud essential oil
1 dropcardamom essential oil

Use It To Make a Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub

If you’re down for exfoliating your skin to keep it glowing even when you’re not showing it off, then try making this easy, pumpkin spice sugar scrub recipe. Not only will does pumpkin spice sugar scrub exfoliate and moisturize skin, it also makes a great holiday gift idea.

To make a pumpkin spice sugar scrub with essential oils, simply combine 3 Cups granulated sugar with 2 Tablespoons melted shea butter and 1/2 cup of your favorite carrier oil. Then add .1 oz. of the pumpkin spice essential oil blend, as indicated in my pumpkin spice room spray recipe, to the mixture. Mix well to combine, then spoon into an airtight container and allow to harden.

Make Pumpkin Spice Body Spray

You can easily use the same essential oil blend to make a pumpkin spice body spray. To do this, simply halve the amount called for in the pumpkin spice essential oil blend, as indicated below. Then combine the essential oils with 4 oz. of your favorite, non-greasy carrier oil.

8 oz. jojobaorfractionated coconut oil
12 dropscinnamon leaf essential oil
12 dropsginger essential oil
12 dropsnutmeg essential oil
9 dropsclove bud essential oil
3 dropscardamom essential oil

I recommend using jojobaorfractionated coconut oil. Although camellia seed oil is another great choice. (It’s a great substitution for those who may be allergic to coconut oil.) While rosehip seed oil is perfect if you want an anti-aging oil and don’t mind the extra expense.

Use It to Make Pumpkin Spice Soaps

Use my pumpkin spice essential oil blend to make homemade soaps for holiday gifts. Add up to 3% of this essential oil blend to cold process soaps. Or up to 1% in melt and pour soap recipes. You can also try some of these other fall essential oil blends for soaps.
