Why is Pagani Zonda R illegal? ›

The Zonda R is not legal for racing (unless somebody creates a racing league for it) and it is not legal for road use. What it is is some absolute beast of a track car, its time at the Nurburgring is close to the times posted by race cars.

You cannot legally drive a Pagani Zonda in the US. There are several (approximately 10) in the US that get driven periodically. Most are here under “Show and Display” titles granted by the EPA and DOT.

The Zonda R completed a lap of the Top Gear test track in 1:08.5, but it was disqualified from the Power Lap board on the basis of it not being road legal. This marks the 3rd fastest car to ever go around the track.
