Nutella Truffles (2024)

A simple ganache is great for so many different things. This Nutella Ganache recipe is no different. You can use it as a glaze, drip, or filling, and with a few little changes, it makes fab Nutella truffles.

A ganache, like a simple sponge, basic buttercream, or fab cookie recipe, is something that once you’ve got a fantastic recipe that works for you (it might not be mine; we’re all different!), you can start to experiment with.

A chocolate or white chocolate ganache is perfect for glazing a cake, using it as a crumb coat, filling layers, using it as a drip, or turning it into truffles.

If you leave the ganache to set, you can even use it as a tart filling or turn it into simple pudding chocolate pots.

But the best thing is, once you’ve cracked that incredibly simple recipe, you can make some changes to flavour, texture, and colour with tiny additions and changes.

This is what makes ganache so wonderfully versatile.

I love to add pink colouring to my white chocolate ganache for a fab drip, and adding some Terry’s Chocolate Orange segments to a milk or dark chocolate ganache gives you a delicious flavour.

Nutella is another absolutely gorgeous variation and a must for Nutella fans.

It’s perfect withdrip cakes or just to add some fun to a chocolate cake.

Can I Use Nutella for Ganache?

You can use Nutella for Ganache, andChocolate cake with Nutella ganache is brilliant!

It’s also great with Ferrero Rocher as part of a cake or dessert.

But this Nutella Ganache recipe isn’t just chocolate ganache with added Nutella.

Because Nutella isn’t a solid, you don’t need as much cream.

But, because it’s already chocolate, you don’t need to use any actual chocolate to make aNutella Chocolate Ganache, either.

You’re really just thinning the Nutella out to make Hazelnut chocolate ganache. It’s already super sticky, so the texture takes care of itself.

Nutella Ganache Ingredients

To make Nutella ganache, all you need is Nutella or a store’s own chocolate hazelnut spread, and some double cream or heavy cream.

If you want a thicker Nutella Ganache, perhaps for a cake topping, then I’d be tempted to add some dark chocolate, too. But it’s not essential.

Can You Make Nutella Ganache without Cream?

Personally, I always make my ganache with double cream. It’s thick, and it tastes great with chocolate.

If you can’t or don’t want to use cream, you could try melting some whole milk and butter together.

I’d use around 50ml of milk and 2 tablespoons of butter.

Heat gently in a pan until the butter has melted and the milk is warm to the touch, but don’t let it boil.

Pour over 300g of room-temperature Nutella and stir until it’s smooth. You can always add a little more milk if it is too thick.

You can get the full recipe for this Easy Nutella Ganache at the bottom of the post.

But basically, you heat the cream, pour it over the Nutella and stir.

Nutella Ganache for Drip Cakes

This Ganache recipe is fairly thin, so it’s perfect for drip cakes.

I’d try a bit first to make sure it’s thick enough to stick and doesn’t just run off the cake.

If you do need to thicken it slightly, you could either add some melted chocolate or stir in a little icing sugar, but that will change the taste.

I’d go with chocolate.

Making Nutella Truffles

Generally, when I make plain chocolate truffles or something like orange chocolate truffles, I use the same recipe as I do for ganache, just leaving it to set.

But because Nutella isn’t a solid like chocolate orange, it doesn’t set the same.

It’s great for aNutella glaze, drip, or to fill a Layer cake, but for truffles or something like a Nutella ganache tart, where you want it to set more, I add some dark chocolate and adjust my quantities.

For Nutella Truffles, I’d use:

200g Nutella

250g Dark Chocolate

120ml Double Cream or Heavy cream

Simply chop the chocolate and place it in a bowl. Heat the cream, but don’t let it boil.

Pour over the chocolate and stir until it has melted before stirring through the Nutella.

Leave in the fridge to set, scoop out using a melon baller, roll, and either leave as it is or dip in cocoa powder or melted chocolate and place in the fridge to set.
