  1. What is unseasoned sweet chili powder? Is this supposed to be "chili powder" which is usually a blend of seasonings by most definitions or a "chile powder" referring to a type of dried chile ground into a powder?

  2. Would it be ok to add a can of Roma tomatoes without the liquid to the recipe? I prefer the texture & taste with tomato chunks in my sauce.

  1. Wonderful recipe - ran out of Heinz sauce for my favorite brisket recipe. Prepared sauce as directed. Delicious. I added extra 1/2 tsp chili powder and 1/8 pepper, and oh boy what a kick! Had to add more tomato paste and corn syrup. Be careful with proportions of spices and seasoning. I advise: follow recipe as written but start with less chili powder and cayenne especially if you use high quality, strong chili powder like I do. Adjust for your family's taste. Best brisket ever.

  2. Great Scotts! I replaced the nasty evil corn syrup with a real dark brown sugar(smokey taste & caramel color), 1/4 cup of apple vinegar with Tabasco( taste & natural preservative), added ketchup to get the Heinz flavor, & chili powder for chili. I do add whiskey to my chili or beer and that really kicks up the flavor too.I will be using celery salt, dill weed, smoked cumin, chipotle powder, fresh minced garlic, fresh minced onion, and maybe off brand sriracha.

  3. To answer the question What is sweet chile powder? Sweet Chili Powder is a different from most other chili powders as it possesses a light touch of sweetness. ... Hand blended from freshly ground Ancho and New Mexico Chiles, coriander, cumin, domestic paprika, oregano, garlic, sugar and cinnamon.

  4. I made this tonight and it was awesome. I did make a few changes based on some previous reviews. I substituted 1/3cup of brown sugar for the corn syrup, onion powder for the flakes. I left out the Worcestershire sauce and red chili pepper flakes. It had the exact taste of chili sauce. I combined it with grape jelly and made a delicious sauce for homemade meatballs. This is definitely a keeper, thanks for sharing.

  5. How is this not ketchup?

Tweaks

  1. I had a leftover bbq sauce so I added all the ingefiants except the vinegar. Poured it with beer over a brisket in slow cooker. It was delicious

  2. I used a can of tomato sauce instead of paste so I omitted the water. I also used regular chili powder.
