Freshen Up Your Porch for Spring with Flea Market and Thrifted Finds: Creative Decorating Ideas (2024)

Spring is here and it’s time to freshen up my porch for Spring after the long New England winter! Here are a few creative ways that I like to use my flea market and thrifted finds when I am decorating.

I look forward to Spring after the long New England winters and can’t wait to get out there and decorate. Also, after the long winters I have been spending the cold weekends hitting the local thrift and antique stores so can’t wait to decorate with my newly acquired junk!

Today I’m sharing Spring porch ideas with a few of my friends so you will be able to gather lots of fresh new ideas for decorating your own home. If you have popped over here from my sweet friend Rachel’s home in North Carolina she had some fantastic ideas for your Spring porch, it’s much warmer down there right now!

Decorating Your Porch With Flea Market & Thrifted Finds

Decorating your porch with flea market & thrifted finds can be a fun and creative way to add some character and charm to your outdoor space.

Remember, decorating with flea market finds is all about creativity and personal style. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to take risks!

Here are some of my tips to get you started:

1. Create A Focal Point

Create a focal point: Choose one or two larger pieces that will draw the eye and anchor the space, such as a vintage bench, a weathered sign, or an antique watering can. Place them in a prominent location where they can be easily seen.

When I was decorating this Spring porch I added a DIY potting table (dumpster dive find) as a focal point. The aqua-blue color was perfect for welcoming Spring.

The bright pop of color is a welcome addition after the gray winter. It’s so cheerful!!

By adding a table it gave me a spot to add smaller Spring decorations.

Instead of adding a sign on the porch wall, I hung an old chippy window frame. Then I added a small wreath that I made with dried flowers.

2. Mix & Match

Mix and match: Don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles and materials. Combine metal and wood, new and old, and varying colors and textures. This will create an eclectic and interesting look.

Underneath the table on the porch, I placed a vintage farm crate on the porch and then stacked a few different flea market metal baskets on top of it.

In the front rectangular basket, I lined it with angel vine and popped in a pot of pretty spring pansies.

When I decorated this Spring I mixed a few vintage pieces (a soda crate, a watering can, and galvanized rusty pots) with a new rabbit ceramic planter that I filled with mini daffodils.

3. Add Plants & Flowers to Your Spring Porch

Use plants & flowers: Plants and flowers are an essential element of a Spring porch decor. Use pots of Spring bulbs or planters of Spring flowers to add color and texture to your space.

One thing I look forward to is seeing those pots of Spring flowers at the nursery!! It’s a sure sign that I made it through another New England winter.

The weather here in New Hampshire is still pretty unpredictable so I don’t put any tender flowers or plants outdoors until Memorial Day weekend. But if you live in a warmer climate a pretty fern or other plants would look fabulous outside on your porch.

I like repurposing flea market finds like old buckets, tin cans, or wooden crates as planters for Spring flowers.

To get that vintage look that I love on my porch I grabbed a $2 thrift store chair and put it in the corner of my porch. In the seat, I added a flea market galvanized pail with a pot of pretty red anemones. Around the top edge of the pail, I tied a mossy-looking rope.

Here I had a natural twig basket filled with a pot of daffodil bulbs on the porch table. It was a fun addition to do this and watch them grow and flower as the month went by.

The daffodils were gorgeous when they flowered. The variety is Narcissus ‘Apricot Whirl’.

Even a small planter of mini daffodils adds a perfect Spring touch to a porch.

Don’t Forget the Details

Don’t forget the details: The small details can make a big impact. Look for vintage, unique, or interesting smaller items to add to your porch. These little touches will add character and charm to your space.

These little galvanized pots are the perfect thing for staging a small fake bird’s nest on the porch.

To make a bird’s nest you can use a small clump of Spanish moss and green moss then add a few mini foam eggs.

This little vintage-looking watering can is really a newer piece that I found online a couple of years ago. The green patina is perfect for Spring and it was just big enough to pop in a single pansy from the 6 pack.

This little cement bird has been with me for years now. I found it at a vintage store in Massachusetts about 10 years ago.

I’ve used it numerous times inside and outside, and it’s starting to get even more aged looking too.

For Spring, I placed the bird in a metal bird case and set up a little nest with moss, grapevine, feathers, and a couple of hollow quail eggs. A perfect Spring vignette.

Vintage Spring Porches

Two different Spring porches but both I decorated with lots of my favorite flea-market and vintage finds that I have collected.
